Remembering Their Service. Preserving Their Legacy.

The Society of the Great War is dedicated to preserving and promoting the memory, stories, and contributions of all who supported the Allied cause during World War I—both on the front lines and on the home front. Through research, education, and community engagement, we honor their sacrifices, safeguard their legacy, and inspire future generations to reflect on the profound human impact of the Great War.

Expeditionary Ancestors

Expeditionary Ancestors is a core initiative of the Society of the Great War, devoted to recognizing and preserving the legacy of those who served abroad during World War I. Whether they fought in the trenches of the Western Front, supported operations in distant theaters, or served in medical, logistical, or intelligence roles, these individuals carried the weight of history on their shoulders. This project aims to document their service, share their personal stories, and connect descendants with the broader legacy of the American Expeditionary Forces. Through research, remembrance, and storytelling, we honor their courage and sacrifice.

Project Spotlight: Cataloging DAR Contributions During the Great War

As part of our mission to preserve the full scope of World War I history, the Society of the Great War is undertaking a comprehensive effort to collect and catalog the wartime activities of Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) chapters across the nation. From fundraising and war relief drives to nurse training and Liberty Loan campaigns, these patriotic women played a vital role on the home front. This project seeks to honor their service by documenting their efforts chapter by chapter, ensuring their contributions are remembered and accessible for future generations.

Homefront Ancestors

While the battlefields of World War I stretched across continents, the war effort was equally shaped by those who remained stateside. Homefront Ancestors is a signature initiative of the Society of the Great War, focused on identifying, honoring, and preserving the stories of individuals who supported the cause from home. From factory workers and nurses to bond drive volunteers and farmers, these unsung heroes sustained the war effort through sacrifice, resilience, and patriotism. Through archival research, family submissions, and community outreach, this project ensures their legacy lives on alongside those who served overseas.
